phoning home [RP for Lee]
standing in the elevator
After three hellish days in detox, Abby is finally feeling well enough, relatively speaking, to settle into a routine of sorts at the inpatient rehab center she's checked herself into. Throughout the detox process, throughout the tremors, nausea, debilitating headaches, and insomnia, all she's thought of (other than having a drink) is Lee and Lily. She's cried more than she'd ever admit, missing her husband and daughter and home almost to the point that she feels it physically. She almost regrets saying she needs to do this alone, but knows she'd never be able to do it if this wasn't her decision and hers alone.

But she still needs them. More than she's ever admitted to herself before. She takes a shower, subconsciously wanting to be fresh and clean for her first allowed phonecall after a successful completion of the detox process. She makes her way from her room to the main floor where she waits, impatiently, for her allotted time slot to begin.

When she finally gets on the phone, she freezes for a moment, her fingers forgetting what to do, what numbers to dial. When she shakes herself and dials the familiar numbers of Lee's phone, she can feel her heart banging around in her chest. What can he think of her now? Maybe he won't even want to talk to her. Maybe he's relieved to be rid of her and the mess she's made of her life. She wouldn't blame him, and she can feel her palms sweating as she listens to the phone ring.

She hates him, I think. He shrugs. Kid can't get near her, not that I'm complaining. I don't really want the mouth-breather fawning over her to begin with.

She shudders slightly at the thought. No, keep him away.

Don't even have to, he stays away on his own now. He pats Lily's back. Daddy's smart little girl.

She nuzzles her face against Lily's. Oh, my Illiania...

Lily sighs happily and babbles at her. Lee shakes his head slowly. You look good holding my baby.

She looks up at him. I've missed holding your baby.

I think she's missed it too. He leans against the wall next to her, letting his hip touch hers. I try, but I'm no replacement for you.

She nods, rubbing the baby's back. Well, I'm glad to hear I've not been replaced.

Not possible and you know it. He assures her.

She nods, though it's been a worry of hers, especially hearing how quickly Lily had taken to Molly being there.

He watches her closely, not sure if she believes him or not. You can't be replaced.

She merely nods again, pressing a kiss to Lily's temple. Her arms are growing tired from holding the little girl for so long; usually Lily is eager to get down and explore or play. But Abby has no intention of setting her down or handing her back to Lee until Lily insists on it.

He gives up trying to assure her and looks around at the area. So...how much do you hate this place?

She purses her lips as she tries to figure out how to answer him. It's...not all bad. I mean, I hate that I have to be here and I hate being away from you guys...But in some ways it's good. Being around so many other people who are dealing with the same thing. It's probably not what he wants to hear, but she hopes he can understand.

He nods, though that wasn't exactly what he'd be asking. I mean how's sharing living space? I think I'd be far less charitable than you are in this situation.
