I need help [RP for Lee] (spoilers for tonight's ER)
standing in the elevator
After a strangely jarring conversation with the new hospital chaplain, Abby finds herself taking the elevator upstairs, to the surgical department. Making her way to her husband's office, she waffles outside the door, pacing, stalling.

It's not until she sees one of the surgical nurses casting a curious look in her direction that she knocks softly on the door, then pushes it open. She takes a deep breath, running her fingers through her hair, and lets the door close behind her as she steps into Lee's office.

She begins to speak but has to clear her throat before she tries again.
Hey...how's the leg feeling? She approaches her husband slowly, gesturing to his injured leg.

He nods, hating the truth in her statement. I wish you wouldn't do that. Hide from me.

I know. She doesn't have an explanation or excuse, not a satisfactory one.

I wouldn't have been mad at you. He assumes that's why she keeps things from him.

She shakes her head. I know, that's not...She thought she could handle it this time, didn't want him to see her so weak if she couldn't.

He doesn't feel any better about things, she's only confirming the fact that she never wants his help, doesn't need him for anything. Do you understand that I love you? Really love you.

She pulls back slightly to look at him. Of course I do.

He wants to believe that, he really wants to think that she knows how much he cares for her. Then why can't you come to me with things? He shakes his head, knowing he won't get an answer about anything now. I'm going to take your bag down and put it in the car.

She presses her lips together, knowing he's upset with her but not knowing how to fix things. Okay...

He gives her thigh a squeeze before getting up and grabbing her bag off the floor. He refuses to let things be unpleasant between them before she leaves, knowing it will only make the separation more unbearable.

Taking the bag downstairs and then to the car, he lingers outside longer than need be. He can't believe this is what things have come to, that she's really this bad off. That he didn't know she was this bad. How could he be so stupid?

Waiting for him, she hates herself, because if she's honest, what she wants the most right now is a drink. She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly before getting up, walking downstairs to wait for him, wait for her daughter.

He's still outside when the sitter pulls up and instead of having her come inside, he gets Lily out of the car seat himself and carries her up to the house. With the baby in his arms, he automatically puts on a happy face and pretends things are fine. Let's go find your mommy, my Lily...where's Mama?

Mama? Lily calls expectantly, looking around the front hall. Mama?

Abby puts on a smile and rounds the corner from the kitchen to the front hall. Lily? Do I hear my Lily?

He doesn't hide his surprise at seeing Abby downstairs, he figured she'd still be in their room. Hey...

Lily's still saying her name as she leans towards Abby, unaware of the way Lee has to fumble to keep from dropping her.

Whoa...Lily. She moves towards the two quickly, catching the little girl, surprised at Lee's fumbling.

He gladly lets Abby take the baby, seeing as she's so eager to be with her mother to begin with. I wasn't going to drop her, I just wasn't expecting her to lunge like that.
