I need help [RP for Lee] (spoilers for tonight's ER)
standing in the elevator

After a strangely jarring conversation with the new hospital chaplain, Abby finds herself taking the elevator upstairs, to the surgical department. Making her way to her husband's office, she waffles outside the door, pacing, stalling.

It's not until she sees one of the surgical nurses casting a curious look in her direction that she knocks softly on the door, then pushes it open. She takes a deep breath, running her fingers through her hair, and lets the door close behind her as she steps into Lee's office.

She begins to speak but has to clear her throat before she tries again.
Hey...how's the leg feeling? She approaches her husband slowly, gesturing to his injured leg.

Thank you. He nods before pulling the hospital gown off and quickly putting the scrub top on, the pants being a bit more tricky as he tries to avoid putting any pressure on his injured leg.

Here, let me help...She moves to help him with the pants.

He starts to protest but realizes he actually needs the help and relents. I am never agreeing to do another Christmas pageant, I hope you know that.

I know. She eases the pants on and pulls them up carefully before tying them at the waist. I don't think anyone's going to blame you for that.

He rests his hands on top of hers as she ties the scrub pants. I don't know what I'd do without you. He gives her hands a squeeze, hoping she knows he isn't talking about getting him dressed.

She keeps her gaze down after she ties the pants. She knows what he's talking about but doesn't want to go there. Call Harold to help you? A joke is better.

He snorts. Knowing what she's doing, he humors her for now. I'd sooner go naked.

She shakes her head. No, all of County doesn't get to see that. Just me.

Greedy. He tries to joke with her even though he feels anything but humorous. Want to see if I can get out of here without the crutches?

She arches an eyebrow at him skeptically. You should probably try to stay off it, you know.

I got up here by myself, didn't I? He counters, stubborn as always.

Yeah, and now you don't have to. She points out.

Fine. He sighs. You're okay to drive? He bites his lip as soon as he asks the question, hoping she doesn't get offended that he asked.

She hands him the crutches and furrows her brow at his question. Yeah, I'm not the one with a chunk out of her leg; I'll be just fine.

He uses the crutches as he get sup and then to balance himself as he tucks them under his arms. I'm asking because you've just told me you need to go into rehab because of your alcoholism. He doesn't want to remind her that it was a drunk driver that put his sister in her current state.

That doesn't mean I'm drunk now. She responds shortly, more frustrated with herself than him.

Doesn't mean that you're sober either. He counters, knowing there's a vast difference between the two extremes.

I'm sober. She insists, knowing it's true, irritated though she knows she shouldn't be. What, you want me to do a BAL before I drive you home?

No. I'll believe you if you tell me you haven't had anything to drink today. He means it, he is willing to trust her even now.

Not since this morning. She says softly, truthfully.

He tries not to outwardly react to the information that she was drinking so early in the day but he can't hide the way his eyes darken or the faint wince. I'll drive.

She glares at the look on his face. Hours ago, Lee. One drink. I'll drive.

He bites his lip, does he let her do this or does he persist? After looking down at the floor for a while, avoiding her gaze, he nods. All right.

She nods, looking away when he does. You shouldn't, with your leg.

Not going to have a choice. He shrugs, knowing he'll have to deal with it while she's gone, driving the least of the difficulties he'll have.
